Exams for Canadian Study Visa

Canada is one of the top study destinations for international students to continue their higher education. But in order to get enrollment in top Canadian university or college one needs to clear some entrance exams before starting the application process.

These entrance examinations vary with colleges, universities and programs. The most common entrance exams are MCAT, GRE, TOEFL, SAT, GMAT, IELTS and LSAT. Appearing for test depends upon the degree program which you have chosen.

Following are the entrance exams which one needs to clear in order to get admission in the Canadian educational institute.

MCAT

MCAT, i.e Medical College Admission Test is an entrance examination which is designed for those students who are looking forward to get admission in a medical program. This test consists of the multiple choice questionnaire which is designed to check the students ability to perform in the medical educational institute.

This exam is divided into four sections, i.e. Physical Science, Verbal Reasoning, Biological Science and Writing Samples. It analysis applicant’s problem solving capabilities, writing, critical thinking skills and knowledge about the scientific concepts that are important in the medical stream.

GRE

GRE, i.e. Graduate Record Exam is an entrance test which is designed for those students who are looking forward to get admission into the graduate or master’s program. GRE offers general test, writing assessment test and subject test.

The requirement of this test depends upon the course of study which you are applying for and the educational institute as well. But the GRE general test is the most common test chosen by the students who are applying for graduate programs. It tests the analytical, verbal and quantitative skills of the applicants.

TOEFL

TOEFL, i.e Test of English as a Foreign Language is organized to check the English proficiency of an applicant. This entrance exam tests the reading, writing, speaking and listening skills of the student. It is especially designed for those students whose first language is not English and wishes to continue their higher education in foreign country like Canada.

SAT

The SAT is an entrance exam which is designed for those students who wish to continue their higher education from foreign country. And the scores of the test are necessary for applicants who are taking admission in an undergraduate program. The exam has a standardized pattern with fixed format of questions and is divided into three parts. In order to get enrollment in the most reputed university or college you will have to score well in this test.

GMAT

The GMAT, i.e. Graduate Management Admission Test is a computer based test which calculates the reading, writing, quantitative and verbal skills of the applicant. This test is especially for those applicants who are willing to get admission in MBA or Masters programs. It's a computer adaptive exam and you can't attempt it for more than 5 times in a year.

IELTS

IELTS, i.e. International English Language Testing System is a English proficiency test designed for students who want to continue their higher education from foreign countries like Canada, Australia, etc.,. It is a mandatory test for students who are from a non-English speaking country.

The format of this test is similar to other tests like PTE where it evaluates the speaking, reading, writing and listening skills of an individual. This is the only test which is accepted by countries all around the world.

LSAT

LSAT stands for the Law School Admission Test which is usually required if you wish to continue a law degree. This exam tests the verbal reasoning and reading skills of an applicant which are a few of the factors required to assess an applicant.
